A report by The Washington Post, among other American media outlets, states that U.S. former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has defended Elon Musk's deals with US government contracts worth tens of billions of dollars. She claims that before Musk, the U.S. was unable to produce rocket engines.

Media reports indicate that following Musk's donation of over $2.5 billion to Trump's campaign to elect him president, Trump appointed Musk as a White House advisor, heading the "Government Efficiency Department" to streamline federal government operations and cut costs.

While serving under Trump, Musk's companies were contracted by the U.S. government for significant projects. On February 27, The Washington Post cited an anonymous source as saying that Musk's SpaceX subsidiary, Starlink, is preparing to replace Verizon in a $24 billion contract with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to upgrade air traffic control systems. Over the past decade, experts and Democratic officials have accused Musk's deals with the U.S. government of creating conflicts of interest.

During an interview with Fox News on February 27, Pelosi defended these contracts, calling them fair. She also criticized China, stating that if the U.S. were to cancel these contracts to avoid conflicts of interest, "all this would help China." She went on to criticize the U.S. for lacking the ability to build its own rocket engines, and credited Musk for creating them, enabling the U.S. to reach space. She mentioned the need for宇航員 in space, the importance of satellites in times of disaster, and how Musk's "Starlink" project has strengthened the U.S. She even suggested that the U.S. deserves a medal for this.

Media reports note that the U.S. first launched a rocket to send a satellite into space in 1958. Before Apollo 11 in 1969, the U.S. had launched over 60 rockets into space.
