Effective after the change, products complying with the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will no longer face the 25% tariffs. Meanwhile, Canadian and Mexican-origin potassium fertilizers will be subject to a 10% tariff instead of the previously imposed 25%.

U.S.商務部長Howard Lutnick issued a statement confirming that the delayed 25% tariffs on USMCA-compliant goods will continue until April 2, including cars.

Trump announced the change in tariffs after a call with Mexican President Lorena Saenz de可在。He stated that the decision to delay the tariffs was made to show respect for her efforts in combating illegal immigration and drug cartels.

However, sources close to the White House indicated that the USMCA covers only 36% of U.S. imports from Canada and 50% from Mexico. This means most Canadian and Mexican products still face the 25% tariff.

Energy imports from Canada are not included in the USMCA, so U.S. tariffs on Canadian energy remain at 10%. In the Feb. executive order, Trump announced that he was imposing a 25% tariff on imported products from Mexico and Canada, with a 10% tariff specifically on Canadian energy.

Trump's tariffs have already caused the U.S. stock market to decline. Even after Trump announced the change in tariffs, major stock indexes continued to drop, with the Nasdaq index entering a technical correction. On Thursday close, the Nasdaq lost 2.61% of its value, retracing all gains since Trump's election. The S&P 500 fell 1.78%, and the Dow Jones lost 0.99%, with market sentiment about Trump's tariff policy becoming increasingly uncertain.

When asked if the stock market's performance influenced the change in tariffs, Trump denied it, calling it "nothing I saw." He continued to blame other countries and foreign companies for taking advantage of U.S. markets, stating that future tariffs would make the U.S. stronger.

After Trump changed the tariffs, Canada announced that it would not impose the second phase of tariffs on U.S. goods from April 2 onwards. As the first phase of tariffs, Canada started imposing 25% tariffs on $3 billion in U.S. imports on March 4, including clothing, beverages, and citrus products. The second phase was originally scheduled to take effect 21 days later on $12.5 billion in U.S. goods, including steel, electric vehicles, and agricultural products.
