Accidents have been mounting from the start of the year.

A report indicates that in January, the U.S. Air Force's F-35A fighter experienced its first accident. On January 28, a U.S. Air Force F-35A fighter from the 354th Fighter Attack Squadron at Eglin Air Base, Alaska, crashed during training in rough seas, sustaining severe damage.

On January 29, a U.S. Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, operated by the 12th Air Operations Command, collided with a commercial jet operated by a U.S. company near the Los Angeles international airport. Both aircraft and all on board were lost.

On February 6, a small plane operated by the U.S. Department of Defense for a secret mission to the Philippines's Nagaon Da瑙 province crashed, killing all four people on board, including three defense contractors and a U.S. Navy Electronic Warfare expert. The plane was en route to the棉蘭老島.
